The HIPAA Act and You

What Is HIPAA?

It isn’t uncommon for people to be hesitant to take advantage of Rolling Strong and our transportation focused health and wellness services because of concern with what will happen with the personal health information they share.

Is that you?

We commonly get questions such as:

“Who will see this information?”

“Will it be shared with my employer?”

“Could the information be used to take me off the road or negatively influence my work status?”

The answer to all these questions is a resounding NO and here’s why.

ALL information shared with Rolling Strong via the application, Higi assessment, or a coaching session is protected by HIPAA law just like all medical documents or information shared with any medical provider.

HIPAA stands for Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, and it is a federal law enacted in 1996 that required the creation of national standards to protect sensitive patient health information from being disclosed without the patient’s consent or knowledge. The major goal of HIPAA is to make sure that personal health information is properly protected while ensuring that high quality health care and wellness prevention services are possible.

HIPAA specifically outlines which health information is protected and how protected health information can be used. Rolling Strong must comply with the HIPAA Act and:

  • Ensure the confidentiality and integrity of all electronic protected health information.
  • Detect and safeguard against anticipated threats to the security of the information.
  • Protect against anticipated impermissible uses or disclosures of the information. And
  • Certify compliance by our workforce.

So let me state in clear terms for your safety and ease of mind – any personal health information given to Rolling Strong is protected under federal law. That means it cannot be shared with an employer or anyone else without your knowledge or consent.
