The HIPAA Act and You

It isn’t uncommon for people to be hesitant to take advantage of Rolling Strong and our transportation focused health and wellness services because of concern with what will happen with the personal health information they share.

Is that you?

We commonly get questions such as:

“Who will see this information?”

“Will it be shared with my employer?”

“Could the information be used to take me off the road or negatively influence my work status?”

The answer to all these questions is a resounding NO and here’s why.

ALL information shared with Rolling Strong via the application, Higi assessment, or a coaching session is protected by HIPAA law just like all medical documents or information shared with any medical provider.

HIPAA stands for Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, and it is a federal law enacted in
1996 that required the creation of national standards to protect sensitive patient health information from being disclosed without the patient’s consent or knowledge. The major goal of HIPAA is to make sure that personal health information is properly protected while ensuring that high quality health care and wellness prevention services are possible.

HIPAA specifically outlines which health information is protected and how protected health information can be used. Rolling Strong must comply with the HIPAA Act and:

–> Ensure the confidentiality and integrity of all electronic protected health information.

–> Detect and safeguard against anticipated threats to the security of the information.

–> Protect against anticipated impermissible uses or disclosures of the information. And

–> Certify compliance by our workforce.

So let me state in clear terms for your safety and ease of mind – any personal health information given to Rolling Strong is protected under federal law. That means it cannot be shared with an employer or anyone else without your knowledge or consent.

Since many medical conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, and heart disease, as well as many lifestyle choices directly influence your health and safety AND your ability to do your job well, our primary goal at Rolling Strong is to help you improve your health by limiting and manage health conditions and enhancing your wellbeing through transportation focused measures so you can do your job safely and effectively AND pass a DOT physical with flying colors when you must take one.

So, don’t fear taking advantage of the resources available to you as you seek to manage your health and wellbeing because our resources are guided by federal law as outlined in the HIPAA Act just like services provided to you by your medical provider.

Partner with us so you can roll strong and be well with the assurance that our primary goal is helping to keep you healthy, safe, and successful in your role with your company because your privacy is not only our priority, but also the law.
